LUKOIL Academic participated in FIBA Europe tournament for the first time during the season of 2002/03. Then the team managed to beat Aris (Greece) and won Southern Conference FIBA Cup in Final Four in Sofia with 81:80 after one of the most spectacular matches in the history of the club. At that time part of the team were Priest Lauderdale and Bryant Smith. In the following quarter final of the elimination phase of the same tournament, Aris won against LUKOIL Academic with 73:91 in Greece and lost only with 10 points in Bulgaria (77:67).
